The Medicine Wheel: Earth Astrology by Sun Bear

Book for Sale:

The Medicine Wheel: Earth Astrology by Sun Bear and Wabun Wind (1980, Paperback)

I have been into astrology for more than 20 years and I have also been learning about Native American Shamanism. For more than a decade, I have been subscribed to various forums for discussing Astrology and Native American Shamanism on the internet. This book is considered a classic work on Native American Astrology. I bought this book for the purpose of gaining a deeper understanding on this subject and I haven't been disappointed. This book indeed describes Native American Astrology in great depth. I'm offering it for sale after moving into a smaller apartment; I no longer have the room for so many books.

One of the Amazon reviewers writes the following:
This is a great book. It says many things about plants not only as totems but how someone can use them to heal or just feel better, it also says many things about the animals, their way of life and their influence to people that were born under their moon...I've learned so many things about myself, nature, and others from this book and I'm thankful.

Another Amazon reviewers writes the following:
I first read this book in 1988 and got it out again today as I recommended it to someone. Am glad to see that it is still in print. Astrology based on moon at time of birth is a different idea, but in my case being a brown bear really is on target. I liked all of the information on minerals and plants, too. .
I've read several of Sun Bear's books and find them thought provoking."

Gathered Stones by David Starr-Glass

Book for Sale:

Gathered Stones by David Starr-Glass (1946, Hardcover)

When I first saw this book it caught my eye right away. I immediately decided that I want to read it. Indeed I wasn't dissapointed. The author skillfully engages the reader in his search for his call in life.

One of the Amazon reviewers writes the following:
Gathered Stones is a thought provoking look into one person's quest for spiritual fulfillment, and the sometimes labrynthine path that takes. It is a deep book, and while exciting, is not an "easy read". There are passages to savor and dwell on, before allowing the plot to carry you off. Truth is stranger (and often more compelling) than fiction!.

The following is written on the back cover of the book:
"We all have been fragmented from one great stone that lies in the courtyard of the King's palace but is destined to be raised high above everything else … All of the fragments, no matter how small and seemingly insignificant, must be gathered up and preserved, for each is vital to the unity of the elevated stone." .

"Gathered Stones" is the stirring personal account of a young Protestant Scotsman whose search for Truth led him from a tiny fishing village on the River Clyde to the Holy Land and, ultimately, to membership in the Congregation of Israel.

Path of the Mystic by Ai Gvhdi Waya

Book for Sale:

Path of the Mystic by Ai Gvhdi Waya (1997, Paperback)

I bought this book some years ago directly from the auther herself. I was subscribed to her forum for several years. The auther is a Tsalagi (aka Cherokee) medicine woman and a traditional shaman. In this book she describes how she became a shaman. Ai Gvhdi Waya specifically "Jaguar Medicine"; in her book she describes her unusual encounter with her Jaguar totem.

One of the Amazon reviewers writes the following:
I would recommend this book for anyone interested the native American medicine path in particular, and metaphysics in general. The writer shares a selection of her personal experiences, each illustrating an aspect of the life of a working shaman. One of the underlying themes is how to learn from guides and fellow-beings in all their forms, including humans, animals, insects, trees, stones, forces of nature such as thunderstorms, and even unseen intelligences. She provides valuable tips on how we can to contact our animal spirit guides. Emphasizing that we should not over idealize people who teach us, she points out that we all possess human flaws. Many seekers seem all too eager to give away their personal power.
One of the most dramatic incidents she recounts is a potentially fatal encounter with a jaguar in Brazil, giving her access to jaguar medicine. (You have to sympathize with her long suffering husband, when she insists on communing with this dangerous animal in the wild!) Nothing in nature is too frightening or too humble for a shaman to learn from e.g. she also explains lessons from apparently insignificant or annoying creatures like ants. Also impressive is her shamanistic work with the dying and berieved, facilitating a peaceful passing for them and their families.
If the book had been longer and more clearly structured, I would have rated it 5 stars. However, I find Ai's writing to be much more down to earth and less ego-inspired than many other books on shamanism. Her work deserves more attention.

The author writes the following on her website:
I believe that how we live our daily life is our mystical path. We try to work from the heart chakra, that fulcrum between our lower three chakras and those above the heart. Without heart being involved, we will never truly make that quantum leap, that ascension, that transformation from chrysalis to butterfly. That means we must place our mind chatter, our logic, in a place of balance with our emotions, feelings and intuition, or inner knowing, in order to strike the harmony or balance in order to be prepared to make this conscious change from gross physical body into living, radiating spirit that glows from the inside of us outward -- and extends into our everyday life in our everyday world.

How we live our life daily is the real testament of our spirit, which struggles to do the right thing to earn that vaunted transformation. As in no time in our human history have we been given the gift, the self-empowerment to blend our human self with our mystical, heart-centered self.
